Course Overview
This course is aimed at developing and refining advanced skills for working within the Theatrical and Media make-up industry. The course is designed to develop skills that will enable the production of specialist effects make-up for competitions, photo shoots, TV and theatre. Basic knowledge from level 2 in either hair or beauty programmes is desirable to explore the creative skills required for this course.
An example of some of the units you will study are:
● Media make-up
● Creative hair design
● Fashion and photographic make-up
● Advanced face and body art
● Camouflage make up
In addition, the learning area programme consists of the following compulsory elements to the course:
● Essential skills Wales training and assessments
● Development of literacy and numeracy
● Development of welsh language skills
● All learners must complete a work placement

Successful completion of Level 2 Hair and Media Make Up, Level 2 Beauty Therapy or, Level 2 Hairdressing learning area programmes and a pass or above in Essential Skills/ GCSE qualifications.
Coursework is by continuous assessment of practical and theoretical assessments
Work experience within a commercial establishment e.g. theatre or photographic studio is part of the course to enable the learner to work under direction.

Progression routes for learners will be to HE or to work in the creative makeup artistry sector.
Employment within the sector is varied and can include working in film, fashion, TV or theatre. Learners wishing to progress to HE will require sufficient UCAS points for postgraduate study.
