Course Overview
This course is for full time students who are wanting to become Electricians or Plumbers in the Electrical Installation or Plumbing Industry. The programme will involve students attending theoretical classroom sessions to gain the underpinning knowledge and also attending practical sessions in our workshops.
The core curriculum will help learners to develop their confidence, knowledge, experience and skills in both Electrical and Plumbing and will be enrolled on City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Building Services Studies (7201-01).
Units consist of -
- Structure of the Construction Industry
- Fundamental Safe Working Practices (Health and Safety)
- Site Preparation
- Electrical Installation & Wiring & Terminations
- Ground Drainage
- Copper Pipework
- Plastic Pressure Pipework
- Installation, Repair & Maintenance of Plumbing Systems
A range of assessments will need to be completed which include -
- Practical assessments in the workshop
- Written exams
- Online multiple choice exams
- Project work
Learners are also expected to complete either Essential Skills Wales, GCSE English & Maths and/or Digital Literacy depending upon their existing grades of Maths and English.
Learners will also be assigned a Progress Coach who will support them throughout their time on the programme and complete a PT programme with them. They will ensure that any ALN support is put in place before learners start and that any new support needs that may arise are incorporated into their programme to help them to succeed. The course is fully supported to meet individual needs and learning differences.
The programme is delivered over three days and will be a mixture of classroom and workshop.

Each learner will complete the WEST diagnostic assessments for literacy and numeracy. Students will work towards a range of units to help them achieve their qualification to support further progression into Further Education or Work-Based Learning.

Applicants must also have proof that they are not colour blind (this can be provided by results of a satisfactory colour vision test).
For all learners who are looking to progress onto this level 1 course from an Entry programme you must have achieved your main qualification, progressed in Maths and English and hit all of the targets in your ILP.
At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
