Full Time, This is a 1 year full time course (3 days a week).

This is a 40 week programme. 35 weeks will be spent in college for up to 18 hours a week on the main qualifications, while the remainder of the course can be a mixture of work experience and industrial visits.

In addition learners are encouraged to complete company work experience placements. The timings of which will be arranged for college half terms.

Course Overview
The Level 2 Pre-Apprenticeship Programme is a 3 day a week program, which is a practical and theoretical based course aimed at a Craft and Maintenance route. There is a large emphasis on the practical element with a wide range of Engineering techniques delivered in Mechanical Engineering.

This course is suitable for Learners that are progression from our Level 1 program, and learners with 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including Maths and English Language/Welsh (1st Language).
Learners on this programme can gain the qualifications required to enter industry directly at L3 (Day Release Programme).

City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations (7682-20):

7682-201 Working safely in an Engineering Environment
7682-202 Carrying out Engineering activities efficiently and effectively
7682-203 Using and communicating technical information
7682-205 Producing Components using Hand Fitting Techniques
7682-211 Preparing and Using Lathes for Turning Operations
7682-220 Assembling and testing fluid power systems

Development of Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy Skills.

Work Related Experience.

This practical and theory based pre-apprenticeship course involves the skills and knowledge needed to work in the Engineering sector.

Learners who have not achieved grade C/4 in GCSE Mathematics and English will have a mandatory requirement to attend sessions to support this in addition to their vocational programme.
The course requires continual assessment of college based assignments which will be collated as portfolio evidence to meet the needs of the awarding body.

Essential Skills will be continually assessed through the duration of the course.
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including Maths and English Language/Welsh (1st Language), or successful completion of a relevant Level 1 qualification.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
This qualification can develop the skills you need to start to progress towards an Apprenticeship. Many employers recognise the skills, knowledge and behavioural skills gained on completion of this programme, to allow progression into employment.

An increasing number of employers in the Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering industry now see the acquisition of relevant National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ’s).

Opportunities may exist to gain trainee employment in any of the following trade disciplines:
● Fitter
● Machinist
● Mechanical/Assembly
● Pneumatics

Learners who gain employment will continue studying further qualifications as part of an apprenticeship.
