Course Overview
The supported internship programme is a one-year course developed to support learners in achieving sustainable paid employment by combining workplace-based learning with a personalised study programme. The programme's focus is on equipping learners with the relevant skills and qualifications they will need for employment in their chosen area.
Communication, numeracy and digital literacy skills remain a key part of learning, with opportunities to develop and practice these skills within the workplace.
The aim of the supported internships is to prepare learners for paid employment by:
*Supporting them to develop skills valued by employers.
*Enabling them to demonstrate their value in the workplace.
*Developing confidence in their own abilities to perform successfully at work.
Destination-led planning is key for each learner.
All activities on this programme will be designed to provide learners with the relevant knowledge, skills and understanding for their individual journey.
Applications for ILS programmes need to be submitted by the end of April so that we can offer learners a thorough and extensive transition into college.

Each student has an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) that records their personalised goals and targets. Students receive regular 1:1 support from their Personal Tutor and Transitions Officer to review their progress and support within the placement. Individualised targets ensure progress toward long term destinations. A relevant qualification or units may also be achieved whilst on programme.
Learners will typically be aged between 16 and 25 and come from a variety of backgrounds. All will have a need for significant support to enable them to successfully achieve paid employment.
Learners will need to have a mature attitude, be willing to learn and develop their skills and be dedicated to finding employment. Many of the learners will have progressed from Pathway 2 or 3 and this Pathway will be the ‘final year’ for learners who have the potential to progress into paid employment.
Learners suited to this course will have an Education Plan (IDP or Education Health Care Plan) which details their additional learning needs.
Learners will need to be able to travel independently to work placements.
