Course Overview
Agriculture is broad and challenging sector, and consequently the course is designed to develop a breadth of knowledge across a range of sectors. Our agriculture courses provide an understanding of modern agricultural production systems and the underlying scientific and technological principles.
Facilities:
- Purpose built Agricultural resource centre.
- 970 acre commercial farm designed to demonstrate principles in practice and the application of scientific, technological and business principles to commercial agricultural and food production.
Where will I study?
You will be based at our Llysfasi campus in our purpose built Agricultural resource centre. Llysfasi is located in Ruthin, North East Wales.
Farm enterprises:
You will have full access to our 970 acre commercial farm which comprises of 230 cow dairy herd, Beef and Sheep enterprises, alongside a range of Forage crop production.
What subjects will I study?
The course consists of a combination of the following units:
● Health and safety for land-based industries
● Agricultural power units and machinery operation
● Crop husbandry
● Farm animal production
● Farm estate maintenance
● Physiology of plants and animals
● Working in the agricultural industry

To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following assessments:
One externally set, externally marked health and safety test.
One externally set, externally marked exams, sat under examination conditions.
One externally set, internally marked, externally moderated assignment.

One externally set, internally marked, externally moderated assignment.
4 GSCEs at grade D/3 or above including English/Welsh (1st Language) and Maths or Science, or a Level 1 qualification.
