Course Overview
This qualification is designed primarily for learners who wish to develop intermediate occupational skills and knowledge in a wide range of horticultural skills to confirm occupational competence in specific job roles including:
• Agricultural/Horticultural Technician
• Gardener
• Horticultural Garden Centre Worker
It is ideal for learners who carry out routine workplace tasks and who may use this qualification as a stepping stone to higher qualifications of this type.
• The qualification covers skills from a wide range of areas including: Levelling and preparing sites for landscaping,
• Preparing ground for seeding and planting,
• Establishing plants and or seeds in soil,
• Maintain the appearance of decorative amenity areas,
• Maintain the condition of sports turf surfaces,
• Maintain and renovate artificial sports surfaces,
• Maintain the health and appearance of interior plant displays,
• Preparing and transporting plants and resources,
• Installing drainage systems,
• Use and maintain non‐powered and hand held power tools and equipment,
• Use and maintain pedestrian controlled powered equipment,
• Use and maintain ride‐on powered equipment,
• Install hard standing sub‐layers,
• Installing block surfaces,
• Installing sett/cobble surfaces,
• Clearing horticultural and landscaping sites,
• Load and unload physical resources within the work area,
• Prepare and operate a tractor and attachments,
• Construct and maintain boundaries,
• Prepare and cultivate sites ready for planting crops and transporting harvested crop
Learners will choose combined units to meet their learning and development needs. This qualification is an Award requiring achievement of 10 credits.
Learners can progress through the different levels and onto relevant apprenticeships.
