If you love animals and are passionate about improving their health and welfare, it’s well worth considering a career in veterinary nursing.
The Level 3 Apprenticeship in Veterinary Nursing is vital to becoming a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN). You will develop essential clinical and employability skills within workplace settings, and be supported to prepare for the responsibilities of being a registered veterinary nurse.
You must complete a mandatory minimum of 2,990 hours of training. This will include attendance at college 1 day per week and being in employment with a veterinary training practice (approved by RCVS) for a minimum of 1800 hours over the duration of the 2 and a half - 3 year apprenticeship.
Some of the units covered include:
● Operational requirements of a veterinary practice
● Anatomy and physiology
● Animal welfare, health and husbandry
● Infection control
● Nursing support
● Nursing emergency and critical care
● Supply of medicines
● Diagnostic skills
● Anaesthesia
● Laboratory
● Operating theatre practice

Must be employed within a Veterinary Training Practice in Wales for a minimum of 16 hours per week
Minimum of 5 GCSE’s or equivalent at grade C / 4 or above
or
Level 2 Animal Nursing Assistants
or
Level 3 Animal Management
Must have GCSE in Maths and English Language and Science at grade C / 4 or above
Or
ESW Level 2 in Application of Number and Communications and equivalent Science.
