Course Overview
This course encourages candidates to develop:
• the capacity for thinking creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically;
• the skills to work collaboratively;
• the ability to apply skills, knowledge and understanding of ICT in a range of contexts to solve problems;
• an understanding of the consequences of using ICT on individuals, organisations and society and of social, legal, ethical and other considerations on the use of ICT;
• an awareness of emerging technologies and an appreciation of the potential impact these may have on individuals, organisations and society.

AS Level: Units 1 and 2 are concerned with applying ICT to solve problems and the study of the opportunities for, and effects of, using ICT in the world today. Candidates will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of software and hardware to create solutions to business related problems.

A2 Level: Units 3 and 4 allow the study the concepts associated with the use of ICT in the 21st century. Learners will also have opportunities for acquiring skills needed in the IT profession such as co-operative working and project management. These practical skills can be developed in areas of ICT that are of interest to them. Students can also use these newly acquired skills as a springboard into other qualifications and working environments.
Units 1 and 3 will be externally assessed by means of written papers under examination conditions. Unit 2 and 4 will be assessed by the centre and moderated externally by WJEC.

Candidates must produce a report based upon their practical work/investigation.
There will be internal mock examinations to provide realistic exam practice.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including Mathematics and English Language/Welsh (1st Language).
Can be taken alongside AS Computer Science – after taking advice.

Should an A level applicant have or be predicted a grade D/3 in either GCSE Maths or English (and at least a grade C/4 in the other subject) then your application will be considered.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
With this qualification learners could go on to higher education or work in one of the many emerging vocational areas in ICT.
Some courses may require equipment and/or uniforms to be purchased. Please see attached equipment list for further information.
