Course Overview
The course aims to equip you with the knowledge and understanding to become a key employee in a dairy business. The dairy sector is facing numerous challenges and pressures and we will equip you with a combination of business management skills, practical skills and the scientific knowledge needed to succeed in an ever changing climate. On completion of your Dairy Diploma course you will become employable and sought after.

Facilities:
Purpose built Agricultural resource centre

970 acre commercial farm designed to demonstrate principles in practice and the application of scientific, technological and business principles to commercial agricultural and food production, wildlife habitats and woodland.

Where will I study?
You will be based at our Llysfasi campus in Ruthin, North East Wales.

Farm enterprises:
You will have full access to our 970 acre commercial farm which comprises of a Dairy herd, Beef from Dairy unit and Hill, Upland and Lowland sheep flocks; alongside a range of Forage crops and a fully equipped Engineering workshop.

● Dairy Cow Husbandry
● Clean Milk Production
● Beef from Dairy Cattle Production
● Work Experience within the Dairy sector
● Grass and Forage Crop Production
● Dairy Business Management and Software
● Machinery Operations
● Key skills

● Opportunities to gain additional qualifications in: Safe and Responsible Use of Veterinary Medicines, Welfare of Animals in Transport, Safe Use of Pesticide Applications, A.I and Dutch Foot Trimming Certification, Telehandler and ATV licences.

● Hands-on practical work experience on our commercial Dairy Unit working in a 20:40 Herringbone Parlour and High Welfare Purpose Built Calf Rearing Unit. The industrial work placement is an integral element to the course and contributes to your future employability..

● Extensive links with other agricultural and food related businesses, external visits and guest speakers are integrated into the course.
You will learn using a variety of methods, including theory sessions, individual and group work and practical work. Assessment will take place continuously throughout the year, in the form of assignments, practical observations, small tests, presentations and employer feedback on the completion of a successful period of work placement.

It is recommended that you gain A.I and Dutch Foot Trimming Certification whilst studying your course to enhance your employability.
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above to include Welsh (1st Language)/English Language and Maths or Science.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
