Top grades for Coleg Cambria students

Coleg Cambria Yale and Deeside sixth form students are celebrating excellent A Level results today.

Students were e-mailed their results directly early this morning before joining staff at Celebration Events at both college sites.

Learners achieving the higher grades had increased considerably with 49% of the passes awarded the top A*, A or B grades over 75% A* to C.   26 students had the remarkable achievement of clear A*/A grades in all of their subjects.

Three learners have successfully gained places at Oxford University and a further four students are going on to study Veterinary Medicine, Medicine and Dentistry with many more successfully progressing to prestigious Russell Group Universities across the UK.

Amongst the impressive statistics are three former Darland High School pupils – Euan McGivern from Wrexham who gained A*and 2As enabling him to study Medicine at Oxford; Miriam Nemmaoui from Wrexham who with 2A* and 2As has also secured a place at Oxford to study English Literature and Joanna Little from Marford gaining 3A* and an A enabling her to study History at Durham.

After receiving her results Miriam spoke of her excitement at gaining a place at Oxford:

“I’m really happy. It’s been hard work but it has all paid off. I can’t believe I’m off to Oxford. I can’t wait.”

Joining both Miriam and Euan at Oxford will be former Ysgol Brynhyfryd student, Polly Williams-Blythe.  Polly who gained 3A*and an A is thrilled with the prospect.

Cerian Davies, also formerly of Brynhyfryd School is overjoyed after gaining A*ABB grades. The talented student from Gwyddelwern will now go on to study a course in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Surrey’s School of Veterinary Medicine.

Former Ysgol Morgan Llwyd pupil, Jasmine Cross from Coedpoeth gained A*AAB securing her a place at Cardiff University to study Medicine.  Jasmine has also won a Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol scholarship enabling her to study part of her course through the medium of Welsh.

Joining Jasmine at Cardiff University after achieving A* and 3As is a former St Joseph School pupil, Abbie Huhtala who has secured a place to study Dentistry.  Piotr Oczkowski from Wrexham, a former Ruabon School pupil’s A* and 3As have secured him a place at Plymouth also to study  Dentistry.

Anastasia Arutyunyan from Summerhill was jumping for joy after achieving 2A* and an A.  The former Brynhyfryd School pupil will now go on to the University of Warwick to study Economics.

More success stories include Danielle Phillips from Moss, a former Ysgol Bryn Alyn pupil, who achieved 2A*s and an A and is going on to study Law at Southampton.
