Coleg Cambria recently welcomed pupils and their families to Bersham Road for an Engineering and Construction Awareness morning.
Children, parents and teachers from Gwersyllt Community Primary School got an introduction to Computer Aided Design Measuring Equipment, visited the Motor Vehicle workshop, had a tour of the new Engineering Technology Centre and learnt about the use of Drones and other equipment in Construction technologies.
The fun filled morning gave the 19 pupils who came along with an adult from their family, an opportunity to learn together and to partake in exciting activities. The morning encompassed the vision of staff at Gwersyllt Community Primary School which is that pupils and families have an enhanced understanding of the world of work, employability and the vast array of career paths that can be followed.
Coleg Cambria Assistant Principal & Director of Curriculum Nick Tyson said:
“It was a pleasure to welcome Gwersyllt Community Primary School to the newly developed Engineering and Construction Technology Centres at Bersham Road. It was great to see the youngsters enjoy learning about the different aspects of Engineering and Construction through a series of practical activities and the different employment pathways it can lead to. Thanks also to Phil Wynn from WCBC for arranging the visit”
Jacquie O’Toole, Assistant Head Teacher at Gwersyllt Community Primary School added:
“We aim to develop our pupils and their families’ knowledge of the role education plays in supporting them to follow the career paths they choose. By enabling them to see the possible end goals we hope that the educational journey they make will become more meaningful and give pupils enhanced ambition and focus.
“The morning at Coleg Cambria was a great success. Pupils returned to school full of enthusiasm and praise for the staff, facilities and the activities. According to our parents ‘Coleg Cambria staff were engaging and really helped inspire the children to work hard and the visit was very informative and gave the children a look at different options for the future’.
“I would like to thank Nick Tyson and his amazing team at the college for such a valuable experience for our pupils and their families and also to Dave and his drivers from Town Cabs for the free transport to and from event.”Go back
