Cambria Higher Education student, Katherine Tyrrell is praising the College and her employer after successfully completing her HNC (Higher National Certificate) in Mechanical Engineering.

Katherine, 22 from Ellesmere Port, works at Airbus in Broughton as a Contract Manager.

Airbus is an international pioneer in the aerospace industry and a worldwide leader in aeronautics, space and related service.

During her apprenticeship with Airbus, Katherine undertook a HNC in Mechanical Engineering at Coleg Cambria.  The aim of the HNC programme is to prepare students like Katherine for a range of higher technical, professional and managerial careers in engineering by providing specialised studies which are relevant to those vocations and professions within which students are employed.

HNCs are benchmark qualifications for Engineering Technicians, recognised by industry and essential for certain positions in HM Forces. Coleg Cambria’s HNC course introduces the fundamentals of mechanical engineering science, the business and management skills needed to succeed and provide opportunity to hone maths skills.

Katherine said, “I studied for my HNC in Mechanical Engineering part time for 2 years, as part of my apprenticeship.  Although a challenging course, I really enjoyed all aspects from business management to advanced mathematics.

“The course has given me a deep understanding, and experience, in the aerospace engineering industry and as a result allowed me to progress within Airbus.”

If you’re interested in studying a part time HNC like Katherine, or any of our Higher Apprenticeship or degree courses, places are still available for this September. Visit www.cambria.ac.uk/higher-education for more information.
