Hairdressing students from Coleg Cambria Deeside have had a busy and successful time of late competing at various competitions.
Two learners entered the Welsh skills regional competitions. Olivia Caplin, 17 from Connah’s Quay and Charlie Smith, 18 from Deeside competed against other students with Charlie taking first place to secure a place at the Welsh Skills Final in Coleg Gwent where he was awarded the 2nd prize.
At the National Hairdressing Federation competitions in Blackpool recently Emma Martin, 29 from Mold secured 1st place with her ‘colour of the day’ and 3rd place with her glamorous ‘night on the town look’, whilst Charlie Smith came 3rd with his ‘colour of the day’.
Jurgita Allen, 35 from Connah’s Quay and Charlie Smith reached the regional final of the prestigious Wella Xposure competition and as a result Charlie was selected for the Final in London in June. Jurgita who last year won at the Hairdressing Council UK Student of the Year is again through to the final which will be held at the end of May in London.
Successful Charlie Smith said:
“Competing this past year has really helped me grow as a person and get past several insecurities I had. My tutor really helped and encouraged me while competing and helped me to work hard and develop my skills.
“Competing really helped me feel like I was good at something and gave me something to work towards and focus on during a difficult time in my life and helped me to develop as a person and work on fixing my insecurities.”
