Epic Overnight Swim for Alex

Head of Deeside Sixth Form Centre at Coleg Cambria, Alex Thomas returned to work after swimming the equivalent of the English Channel overnight in aid of the college’s chosen charity, Wales Air Ambulance.

Alex, who swam 32km at the Cambrian Aquatic Sports Centre in Connah’s Quay in an amazing time of 11 hours and 36 minutes which is roughly a length of the 25 metre pool per 30 seconds.  After months of training, Alex started the challenge at 5pm to then finish the following morning, before returning to work.

Following the epic swim, Alex said:

“This was a massive challenge for me to swim the whole length of the English Channel, and something I wanted to do whilst also raising money for charity, Welsh Air Ambulance.

“I would like to thank everybody for their support and especially Chris Wallace, manager at Cambrian Aquatic Sports Centre and the team for allowing me to use their facilities to train and undertake the challenge.”
