Alex Mclaren
Studied – Level 2 Electrical Installation
Currently – Electrician at Tata Steel UK
“In school I studied an Engineering course which included an electrical unit, I really enjoyed this and it made me want to study electrical installation further.
“Completing this qualification gave me the knowledge and practical skills (such as installing basic circuits) I needed to get an apprenticeship after I finished the course.
“I currently work for TATA STEEL and I love my job and career choice, it all stemmed from doing the Electrical Installation Level 2 course at Coleg Cambria.”

Frankie McCamley
Studied – A Level English, Drama, Maths and French
Currently – Presenter and News Correspondent for the BBC
“I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do in the future, so I chose a range of different subjects to study at A Level. I’m now employed by the BBC as a Presenter and News Correspondent and studying at Yale Sixth gave me the confidence and skills to go onto university. I made some amazing friends, had some great teachers who I’ll never forget and had a great time in Wrexham!
“I look back on my time at Yale with pride and fondness and will never forget it!”

The technical construction sector provides a wide range of services from building and civil engineering, highways maintenance, built environment and design, surveying and site supervision. Our Enhanced Construction Programme is a pathway to apprenticeship programme which is designed to progress learners into employment, university or onto a full time Level 3 Apprenticeship.
Over the past few years since its introduction, over 75% of learners have gained apprenticeships with local and international companies. The programme gives learners the technical, practical and behavioural skills that employers want. A key part of the programme is the work experience element which allows learners to put their skills into practice in a working environment.

Rob Duncan
Studied – Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery
Currently – Carpenter with Flintshire County Council
“I’ve always been hands on and loved building things as a kid. I wanted a job that I knew I’d enjoy so I decided to enrol onto a carpentry course.
When I started college I had no knowledge of carpentry, but with the skills I learned on the course I managed to get a really good apprenticeship; I’m now fully qualified with a full time job, car and house!
If I didn’t go into the trade I wouldn’t have what I have got today. My advice is to give everything a go, everyone starts somewhere and you only get better with practice.”
