Coleg Cambria Childcare students have been trained up to become Dragon Sport Leaders.

The Dragon Sports course enables the students to deliver fun and exciting physical activity in their placement settings offering young people across North East Wales more opportunities to become active.

The Active Cambria programme at the College which includes opportunities for learners to take part in sports and fitness activities, as well as chances to train as sports coaches through volunteering roles, worked in partnership Aura Wales and Welsh Colleges to develop this opportunity for Childcare students.

It is hoped that an ongoing partnership will be established to encourage other areas in the education and care industry to get the nation moving. The 40 students will go out into their industry settings and run fun and exciting activities with the children they care for.

Active Cambria Coordinator, Donna Welsh said:

“I am very excited to see how many children we will work with by training up 40 of our childcare students. Organisations need to adopt new ideas to increase the opportunities for all school children to become active and hooked on physical activity. There are so many physical and mental benefits.”
