Cambria students begin foundation degrees in Childhood Studies and Education (Learner Support & Special Educational Needs) accredited by Aberystwyth University. The University is rated the best in Wales and one of the top five Higher Education institutions in the UK for overall student satisfaction in the 2017 National Student Survey.

A foundation degree is a qualification which combines academic study with workplace learning. They are designed and developed with employers and are the equivalent to studying for the first two years at university.  It’s an ideal qualification for those who are looking to support children and families, and work in the community; those looking to further their own education that may not have previously been an option; and for those who want to maintain employment whilst studying for a degree.

Staff delivering the new degrees at Cambria have Higher Education qualifications and first-hand knowledge of current issues in the education and social sectors including Lecturer Joss Peers who added:

“It is an incredibly exciting time at Cambria, with the introduction of degrees that have meaning within our local community and lead to new prospects for our learners.

“The Childhood Studies students have already taken a trip to a Victorian classroom and we have more events planned. The degree courses are taught at university level with an emphasis on learning in a variety of ways, so we are not ‘lecturing’ but ‘involving’ people in their learning.”

This semester students are studying ICT in the classroom, policies and issues in education, key skills for university, the early years provision and inclusive practice.

Upon completion of a HND or foundation degree students can top up their degree to Bachelor’s level, equating to a third year of university.

Cambria is extremely privileged to be part of the Aberystwyth University family and looking forward to meeting new learners in October 2018.
