Why Choose An Apprenticeship?

Kickstart your career with an apprenticeship and earn as you learn.

Across North Wales and beyond, companies are recruiting for apprenticeships and training people in the skills they need to succeed in their career.

As an apprentice you will earn whilst you learn, gaining skills, knowledge, experience and recognised qualifications along the way. Whether you’re aged between 16 and 19 or 20 and over, a range of apprenticeship options may be available to you.

The UK construction sector is a multi billion pound industry and construction apprentices make up a huge part of the workforce across various disciplines of construction.

This sector is a great opportunity for learners who prefer being hands on in their work and can lead to more technical and managerial office based jobs.

Construction Apprentices will spend time at our recently refurbished state of the art facilities at our Deeside or Bersham Road sites for day release or assessment as well as being assessed onsite by our industry served assessing teams.

Students wanting to study towards a construction trades, plumbing or electrical installation qualification may be able to shorten the length of the programme if they have completed a foundation year full time at college.

Trade & building employers need to cover a wide range of work within their field to meet the evidence requirements of the qualification.

Apprentices studying a construction qualification will be required to do a mix of physical tasks onsite in the workplace and will need to be precise in their work.

Joel Thomas

Studied – Carpentry and Joinery

Currently – Joiner at Annwyl Group

“I’ve really enjoyed my Apprenticeship. It’s been a great balance of working on site and at college. I enjoy working with everyone in the workshop and the more experienced joiners have passed on so many skills to me.

“As a career choice I’d really recommend joinery as it’s creative and there’s so much more to it than I ever imagined. I always knew I wanted to learn a trade and I want to stay on in the workshop once I’m qualified.

“If you’re considering an apprenticeship then my advice is to 100% do it, as early as possible. There’s lots of support on offer and it’s a chance to get some qualifications under your belt, while being paid to learn too.”

Studied – Carpentry and Joinery

Currently – Carpenter at Annwyl Group

“I’m five months into my apprenticeship and finding it so interesting. I really enjoyed woodwork in high school and took it up as a hobby during the pandemic.

“I decided I wanted to do carpentry and joinery at college before successfully applying for an apprenticeship with Anwyl.

“I was one of just three girls who started last year’s course at Coleg Cambria, and we were the first ever females to join that course. Trades like carpentry are still very male-dominated but that is starting to change.

“I’ve had great support from Coleg Cambria and Anwyl since I started. My advice to other girls considering learning a trade is to go for it.”
